Organic certification standards – what are the differences?
To comprehensively present the difference or resemblance of organic certification standards at national and international levels the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) designs a webbased information system, which allows users to analyse and compare different certification standards and accompanying documents.
Who we are
The Federal Office for Agriculture and Food (BLE) in Germany is subordinate to the Federal Government and empowered to conduct business on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV).
BLE is in charge of various tasks concerning the realisation of the European regulations in organic farming. This includes the accreditation of private organic certification bodies in Germany, the authorisation to import organic products and the approval to use conventional additives in organic products.
BLE is responsible for the registration of producers using the “Bio-Siegel”, which is the German governmental certificate for organic products
What you can do and contribute
Be a member of the user group.
We will present the information system at the BIOFACH 2010 and form a group.
We will present our concept and the project proceedings at the BIOFACH 2010 and would like to welcome you at booth 351 of the Federal Ministry BMELV in hall 9. The presentation will take place twice:
Friday, 19.02.2010 at 11:00 and at 15:00
It is the objective of the meeting:
The system allows users to perform a full text-search in all textual components of different certification standards. A keyword thesaurus allows you to quickly compare the standards with regards to different issues. Registered users can save their search results for future use.
Integrate components of the Organic Standards-Database into your website
As an agency, you can select specific components of the information system and present them on your website.
Contribute your knowledge
Contribute your comments and interpretations
Share your comments on specific articles of the certification standards on the websites.
Contribute your standard
The pilot version of this information system will present the European Organic Farming Regulation and the National Organic Standards – NOS of the United States of America. The system features a backend to freely add standards. Please feel free to register and add your standard.
